TAGOLOAN, Misamis Oriental - PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority Administrator and Chief Executive Officer Jose Gabriel “Pompee” La Viña ordered the strict enforcement of the COVID-19 protocol in all the workplaces in the government’s only industrial economic zone in Northern Mindanao.
Upon his assumption to office last month, La Viña emphasized to PHIVIDEC-IA officials and employees that one of the main concerns of his administration is the health and well-being of the corporate workers in order to prevent the spread of coronavirus in the workplace.
La Viña immediately ordered the enforcement of the “maximum” health standards against COVID-19 through mandatory RT-PCR swab testing to all employees. Those who tested positive of the virus were endorsed to the Department of Health for proper treatment.
Random swab testing to the employees will follow thereafter, while employees with high-risk exposure to the virus are subject to regular swab testing.
Moreover, La Viña plans to establish isolation and holding units for COVID-19 positive employees.
The corporation will also facilitate the contact tracing to further contain the virus infection.
The DOH recommended health protocols are also adapted such as the compulsory wearing of face masks and face shields, monitoring of body temperature, observing physical distancing, hand washing and using of alcohol, and regularly disinfecting the entire workplace facilities.
Offices are also reconfigured to comply with the new normal workplace standards such as the installation of transparent barriers between work stations.
“The standard here is our employees should feel more safe [in the workplace] than at their homes. They would want to work longer because they feel safer here. That’s the environment we want to create,” said La Viña.
La Viña will also coordinate with the locators and service firms of PHIVIDEC-IA to make sure the same health standards are practiced.
He believes that implementing the highest health standards at the workplace can help attract more investors because it can strengthen the trust and confidence of partner institutions in terms of safety assurance.
“Could you imagine if we can create an estate here were locators and investors feel safe? It could definitely have a positive effect on the economy and employment opportunities in Cagayan de Oro and Misamis Oriental,” added La Viña.
President Rodrigo Duterte appointed La Viña as the new Administrator and CEO of the PHIVIDEC-IA, in the 3,000-hectare industrial and economic zones at the coastal towns of Tagoloan, and Villanueva, all at Misamis Oriental.
