TAGOLOAN, Misamis Oriental - Newly-installed PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority Administrator and CEO Pompee La Viña has enjoined A-Power to prepare for an increase of energy demand following the entry of a big player in the steel making industry.
The call was made during a virtual meeting of the Board of Directors of A-Power with Pompee La Viña last November 4, 2020.
Power Industries of Mindanao (A-Power) operates and maintains the electric distribution system to serve the energy requirements of locators within PHIVIDEC-IA.
A-Power is a joint venture company of PHIVIDEC Industrial Authority (PHIVIDEC-IA), Cagayan de Oro Power and Light Company (CEPALCO) and a group of industries operating inside PHIVIDEC-IA.
As partner of A-Power, La Viña assumed the directorship post vacated by Lawyer Franklin Quijano, former PHIVIDEC -IA administrator and CEO.
With the coming of more investments at PHIVIDEC-IA, La Viña foresees an increase in economic activities as well as the rise in employment opportunities, not only for the host municipalities of Tagoloan and Villanueva in Misamis Oriental but also for the city of Cagayan de Oro, and the rest of Northern Mindanao.
La Viña said power industry players alone need more skilled workers as they expand their operations to keep tab with the increasing demand for electricity in the area.
In preparation for the coming of integrated steel mill, we will need steady supply of power, he said.
A-Power has pledged a steady power supply for the initial first year of operation of the steel plant while implementing expansion measures to assure power efficiency all throughout the operation of the steel mill.
At the same time, downstream economy will follow and we need to have steady supply of energy that can meet the demand, La Viña added.
